Nurturing the Nurturer

At Sankofa, we believe that healing does not happen in isolation—it happens in relationship and in community where we feel seen, supported, and restored.

This season, we are honored to introduce a new offering created with that spirit in mind:

Nurturing the Nurturer

A Maternal Wellness & Mindfulness Series

In collaboration with the Rochester Black Nurses Association, this 8-week program was thoughtfully designed to support women during pregnancy and throughout the first 18 months of their child’s life. This experience centers emotional wellness, connection, and culturally responsive care during one of life’s most transformative seasons.

We recognize that many mothers experience stress, anxiety, mood changes, and even isolation during pregnancy and postpartum. Too often, these experiences go unsupported. This program creates a space where mothers can be cared for while they are caring for others.

Participants will experience:

• Trauma-informed group support groups with licensed therapists

• Mindfulness and gentle yoga to support nervous system regulation

• Maternal health & nutrition education grounded in culturally responsive care

• Meals provided to provide nourishment and create ease
